Lunes de Chocolate=Chocolate Monday


Hola Amigos! Happy First week of February. Today has been a busy day around this house. Constant snow...has gotten some of us doing this:

While others  have been doing a lot of this (the fun stuff)

And leaving very little time for me to do this (so I got my little willing helper)

I'm bringing you a very fast and easy way to make a favorite in most Latin countries, Bocado de la Reina (Queen's Titbit)  also known as Dulce Tres Leches! In Panama it's served at weddings to complement the wedding cake and other sweets, of course spiked with rum. When you add chocolate to the mix becomes Bocado del Rey (King's Titbit).

The traditional recipe calls for a homemade sponge cake, but since we are short in time we will go around the corner on this part, but the rest will remain the same full of flavor  to start our workweek on  a sweet note.

Easy Chocolate Tres Leches


1 box yellow cake mix
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 can condensed milk
1 can heavy cream
1/2 cup chocolate syrup
1/2 TSPS Vanilla
a Pinch of salt
1 Pint Heavy Whipping Cream
1/2 cup Rum (optional)

Prepare cake according to instructions. Once done let it rest for at least 10 minutes. With a fork poke holes all over the cake...don't be afraid this step is necessary to ensure the 'tres leches mix' goes every where inside the cake.  After pinching the cake set aside and work on the "tres leches mix"
Mix the evaporate, condensed, heavy cream, chocolate syrup, vanilla and the pinch of salt until everything is together. 
If you are using rum, pour it over the cake and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before pouring the leches mix.
If you are not using rum, pour 2 cups of the "leches mix" on the cake and let it rest 30 minutes. After the time has passed, repeat the process.
Whip the pint of whipping cream until soft peaks top the cake with it and some cherries if you like.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before eating.

Listo!

This cake is so tasty it's hard to put the spoon down...yes it's so soft you would need a spoon to eat it not a fork.

For adults you could serve them in shot glasses with your favorite rum flavor..yummm

Just a Reminder ..when you add the rum...don't forget to actually eat the cake, LOL!

Serve it by the slice with a bit of the syrup from the cherries you used. Is not only a pretty presentation, but it adds a different note of sweetness to the cake.
